Plastic spares for old and classic cars

Clips, trim, vents, knobs and guides nobody makes any more, reproduced in 3D. Which material survives inside a car, and what we will not touch.

A twenty-year-old car can have a perfect engine and an interior falling apart. Plastic dies first: sun and heat make it brittle, and one day a clip snaps opening a flap you have opened a thousand times. Breakers have the same part, from the same year, equally brittle. That is where printing wins.

What breaks and can be reproduced

  • Trim, moulding and wheel-arch clips. By far the most requested, and the easiest: three dimensions and the rest is simple geometry.
  • Vents and air outlets, including the vanes and the little wheel that aims them.
  • Climate, radio and light control knobs, complete with their internal splines.
  • Window regulator guides and sliders, one of the commonest causes of a dropped window.
  • Trim covers, screw caps, interior handles and console pieces.
  • Headlight and bumper brackets: the tabs that snap and leave the light hanging.
  • Fuse box lids, cubby trays, ashtrays and glovebox parts.

Material: it gets very hot inside a car

This is the mistake that ruins most printed car parts. A dashboard in the August sun passes 60 °C easily and can approach 80. PLA deforms at 55 °C: a PLA part on a dashboard sags on its own over one summer, with nobody touching it. And on a black part, which absorbs more heat, sooner.

Making the copy outlast the original

  1. 1Fillet the corner where it broke. Look at the broken part: it split at a sharp edge. A radius there completely changes where and when it fails again.
  2. 2Orient the clip so the layers run along the bending, never across it. An upright printed clip snaps first time; laid flat it survives dozens of openings.
  3. 3Add perimeters before infill. Four walls hold more than heavy infill and cost less.
  4. 4Order two or three. Clips do not break one at a time: they break because they are all the same age. The second unit brings the volume discount in.

Can you make a classic car part with no drawing?

Yes, and it is normal on older cars: nobody has the drawings. We work from the broken part, from the mirrored part on the other side if there is one, or from the recess it fits into. The opposite-side part is a gift when it exists: copy it and mirror it.

Does a printed part survive inside a car in summer?

In ABS, yes: it holds to about 95 °C, above anything a dashboard reaches. In PETG it copes with everything out of direct sun. In PLA, no: it is the wrong material for a car, which is why we do not recommend it here even though it is the cheapest.

Can it be painted to match the interior?

Yes. ABS is the filament that sands and primes best, so a visible part can be finished until it is indistinguishable. It is an option chosen when ordering and it adds drying time to the lead time.

Do you make parts for motorbikes, vans or campers?

The same criteria apply: plastic yes, safety no. In campers and converted vans the discontinued bracket, cover or furniture fixing is very common, and those parts come out well.
