3D printing across metropolitan Barcelona
How to get a printed part if you are in the Baix Llobregat, the Vallès, the Maresme or the Barcelonès: lead times, cost, and when collecting is worth it.
More than three million people live in metropolitan Barcelona and most of them have no 3D printing workshop in their town. The practical question is not where the nearest printer is, but which of the three ways of getting the part suits you: collecting it, a courier, or standard shipping.
The three options, plainly
| Option | Cost | Adds to the lead time | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Collect at the workshop | Free | Nothing | Anyone already coming into the centre, or in a hurry |
| Courier within Barcelona | €5.90 | Usually same or next day | Inside the city boundary |
| Mainland shipping | €6.90 | 1 working day across the metro area | Hospitalet, Badalona, Sant Cugat, Terrassa, Mataró… |
When collecting is worth the trip
The honest sum: collecting saves you about seven euros and a day. If you come in on Rodalies or the metro from Sant Cugat, Badalona or Cornellà and were coming into the centre anyway, it pays. If the trip exists only for that, it almost never does — except in two cases.
- Large or fragile parts. A model or a thin enclosure travels better in your hands than in a van, and you skip the reinforced packing.
- When the fit has to be tested. If the part goes into a gap we cannot measure, bringing the assembly and trying it here saves an entire second iteration.
What gets ordered from where
Not a rule, just what we see. From the Vallès it is mostly industrial: tooling, jigs, equipment enclosures and spares for machinery nobody makes any more. From the Baix Llobregat, workshop and installation parts. From the Maresme and the coast, marine fittings and parts that will sit in the sun — and there the material is almost never PLA. And from Barcelona itself, design, architecture and product prototypes.
Do you deliver to L’Hospitalet, Badalona or Sant Cugat?
Yes, with mainland shipping: €6.90 and normally one working day in transit once the part leaves the workshop. The cheaper urban courier rate applies only inside the Barcelona municipality.
Do you have a workshop in my town?
No. There is one workshop, in El Born, and no branches. Free collection exists only there; anywhere else the part goes by courier.
Does the free-shipping threshold apply here too?
Yes. Above the amount shown in the configurator the shipping charge disappears, and that holds for the metropolitan area exactly as for the rest of mainland Spain. The configurator shows it before you confirm.
